Raining battle

This is an artwork that I made for my visual development class. The first one is my first attempt, which is somewhat satisfied me about the atmosphere of a doom and gloom day. However, this muted colour scheme makes it feel like a flashback or memory, it does not like you are in a battle. So I try some intense colour in the second attempt. How do you think? I am open for critique.
